Well the Olympics 2012 are here and we have already been invited to some Olympic Parties next weekend. So we thought how about Kosmos helping you to be a bit more patriotic and coloring your hair! Just temporary though!

We are going to tell you how to color your hair with food coloring.

Dyeing your hair with food coloring is a fun, inexpensive and safe for you or your kids. You can try out a an Olympic look or some patriotic colored highlights. We chose food coloring because is non-abrasive, and will not damage your hair like harsh chemical compounds and is temporary. You can use this semi-permanent rinse to color your whole head, or to creatively streak a few strands. Follow these  instructions for some great fun results and post your pictures on Kosmos’s FaceBook page.

Sensible Precautions: Anything that can dye your hair has the potential to stain other things as well i.e. your skin, towels, carpet and clothing. So lay down some good ground cover or do it our in your yard!

You will need:-

Empty shampoo or applicator bottle              Kosmos-hair-salon-supports-teamUSA

Good quality plastic gloves

Liquid food coloring (desired shades)

Shampoo

Water

Shower cap

An old towel

Application

Step 1: Put on the plastic gloves and place an the towel over your shoulders to catch any unavoidable drips and to protect your clothes.

Step 2: Now mix the food coloring and shampoo in the empty shampoo bottle, for every fluid ounce of shampoo, add 6 drops of coloring, until you have the desired quantity, depending on the amount of hair you wish to cover. Try 1/2 a cup (4oz) and 24 drops of coloring to start.

Step 3: Make sure the lid is secure then shake the bottle until contents are thoroughly mixed. Add 1 tablespoon of water and shake again, for about 2 minutes, to ensure even color application.

Step 4: Wet your hair with clean warm water.

Step 5: Starting with your roots, apply the food coloring/shampoo mixture, working it in thoroughly to the tips.

Step 6: Now cover your head with an old shower cap, tucking all your hair completely inside, then take a photo and put on Facebook :0)

Step 7: You can leave the shower cap on for anywhere between 30 minutes to 3 hours. The required time will depend on your original hair color  as light hair will absorb dye quicker, and the degree of color you want. You can rinse and dry a small section to check color. Kosmos-olympic-hairstyles

Step 8: Thoroughly rinse out the colored shampoo mixture with warm water.

Step 9: Towel or blow dry.

Highlighting

If you are not quite so bold and just want some highlights place use an old swimming hat and make some small holes in it so you can pull some of your hair strands through. The bigger the hole the more hair you can streak.

I know it is a pain but try not wash your hair for 3 days after applying the mixture to best preserve the color. If you really have to the dye will not last as long. This dye is semi-permanent, and should last between 2 and 4 weeks.

Use old towels, and wear old clothes and plastic gloves when applying dye. The process is messy and can temporarily stain your skin and other surfaces so please be careful.

Shaving cream and lemon juice are both good for removing and fading stains.

And don’t forget to post your finished hair styles on Kosmos Hair Salons Facebook page, Good Luck!
