Hair Cuts to Fit Your Face

Change is always a good thing, especially when you’re deciding a new haircut. Your hair should reflect your personality and highlight your beautiful features. Coming up with the perfect cut to show your hair dresser doesn’t have to take hours of scrolling through Google Images. There’s already so much to consider when looking for a new hair-cut… Do you want a short, medium or long cut? Layers or no layers? Color? Highlights? No highlights? The easiest approach is to determine the shape of your face first. Once you have that, your choices will narrow and deciding won’t be as time-consuming. Here are my recommendations for the various shapes:

Oval Shaped Face
An oval shaped face is the easiest of all to work with. This shape goes well with both, long and short cuts, but most often, not medium cuts. A medium cut will take away from the symmetry and will make the lower part of the face look longer than it actually is. Be extreme with this facial shape.

Round Shaped Face
If you have a round face, go with some length (below the shoulders). Try to stay away from a bob which tends to round the face further. Also consider layers, they’ll define your face nicely and add some dimension to the circular shape.

Square Shaped Face
With a squared shape, you want to avoid a length that ends at the jawline. Instead, consider a little bit of length (below the shoulders) and ask your hair dresser to add some soft layers around your face, with long bangs. This will help soften the corners of your face.

Oblong Shaped Face
If you have an oblong shaped face, layers are your new best friend, long layers to be exact. The idea here is to draw attention to the jawline by adding volume and definition in that area of your hair.

Heart Shaped Face
Bangs are perfect here. The goal here is to make the forehead seem narrow, while adding length to add width to the lower part of your face. Long bangs here also help soften your cheekbones.

Diamond Shaped Face
With this shape, keeping it short is key. Not pixie short, but chin-length to shoulder length is perfect. A bob is perfect for the diamond shaped faces. Make sure to add some light layers scattered around the face to soften the sharp angles of your facial shape.

Keep in mind that hair color and skin tone, highlights, texture and your body type may also play a part in determining the perfect cut. Keep checking back for tips on how to find the right cuts and hair colors that cater to those features.
